Food Access Steering Committee

Overview

People most impacted by an unjust and failing food system should be in positions to lead, shape, and drive community centered programs that exist to meet their needs. Metro Caring is looking to recruit 8 members for a Food Access Steering Committee composed of directly impacted community members and food producers. In collaboration with Metro Caring staff, the committee will help guide and support the Food Access program’s major projects and decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Co-create a Theory of Change for Metro Caring’s Food Access program
  • Assist in defining procurement values and goals for Metro Caring’s Fresh Foods Market
  • Support the development of evaluation plans for Metro Caring’s Food Access program
  • Provide guidance that will direct major projects and decisions of Metro Caring’s Food Access program

Engagement & Commitment

Five 2-hour meetings will take place over the course of 10 months. Committee members will be expected to attend each session, with virtual options as well as translation and interpretation provided to support participation. Depending on the specific projects and goals of the committee, some members may be asked to participate in work sessions between group meetings. Committee members can expect to commit up to 5 hours per month including all meetings and additional work needed. Committee members will commit to one year, with a new selection process to occur annually.

Committee Member Compensation

  • Committee members will be paid $600. The payments will be received in three $200 installments, contingent on continued participation
  • For each of the 5 annual meetings, committee members will receive a voucher for Metro Caring’s Fresh Foods Market that can be redeemed at any time for a full shopping trip
