SUMMARY:Webinar: Building Better Systems
DESCRIPTION:Helping organizations are often dedicated to supporting community thriving. We create programs and services with our values at the forefront of our minds. But our systems communicate our values before a human ever does. \nContinuing from trauma‑informed spaces\, this webinar examines how systems\, our websites\, phone trees\, intake processes\, appointment systems\, and policies shape people’s experience long before staff can demonstrate our values. Participants will identify bias and friction points in those systems and test practical changes that lower barriers\, improve access for people in crisis\, and align operational design with dignity‑centered practice. \nJoin us as we seek out the less visible systems that sit between our community and our services. \nRegister to attend. Available in-person at Metro Caring or on Zoom.

SUMMARY:Training: The Power Shift
DESCRIPTION:Much of our work in community and human services is shaped by deeply rooted assumptions about who holds knowledge\, who makes decisions\, and how support is provided. These assumptions often show up as charity-based models that\, even with the best intentions\, can limit agency and reinforce unequal power dynamics. \nThe Power Shift training series focuses on reframing these dynamics by offering three interconnected lenses: shifting from charity to solidarity\, redefining lived experience as a form of leadership\, and practicing co-investment as a shared approach to change. \nTogether\, these concepts support participants in rethinking how they show up in their roles\, relationships\, and systems and in building approaches that are more collaborative\, equitable\, and grounded in community. \nParticipants will:\n\nExamine the differences between charity and solidarity\, and how each approach shapes power\, relationships\, and outcomes\nRedefine lived experience as leadership\, recognizing the value of insight gained through lived and living expertise\nExplore co-investment as a shared approach\, where responsibility\, decision-making\, and outcomes are held collectively\nReflect on how power shows up in their own roles and organizations\, including where it is concentrated\, shared\, or limited\nIdentify opportunities to shift their practices and relationships\, moving toward more equitable and collaborative ways of working\nBegin building a shared language and approach that supports dignity\, agency\, and community leadership\n\nRegister to attend.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Trauma Informed Spaces
DESCRIPTION:In a world marked by scarcity\, where individuals and communities navigate daily challenges without the resources to thrive\, it’s important to recognize that scarcity and trauma affect us all. People who carry trauma are our leaders\, colleagues\, and the community we serve. \nThis webinar presents a concrete\, objective tool to evaluate everyday elements of service environments—seating\, lighting\, sound\, scent\, layout\, and staff interaction—through a trauma‑informed lens. Participants will learn how to apply ideal design principles within real‑world constraints\, prioritize immediate changes\, and plan longer‑term adjustments that reduce harm and restore capacity for people experiencing scarcity. \nRegister to attend. Available in-person at Metro Caring or on Zoom.

SUMMARY:Webinar: From Charity to Solidarity
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our upcoming Webinar: From Charity to Solidarity \nReframing How We Share Power\nThis interactive webinar examines the differences between charity and solidarity\, naming how transactional help can hoard power\, moralize need\, and reinforce dependency. Through guided dialogue\, storytelling\, and the “near enemies” framework\, we’ll surface moments where good intentions reproduce harm and map real examples of solidarity as a practice that shares power and strengthens agency. Participants will leave with clearer language\, concrete indicators of solidarity\, and steps to begin shifting their own work. \nWhat you’ll do and learn:\n\nDefine charity versus solidarity and understand their different impacts on power\, dignity\, and agency\nUse the near‑enemies lens to spot where charity and solidarity overlap and where they diverge\nShare and analyze real stories of receiving and giving charity and solidarity to identify practical markers of solidarity in action\nIdentify immediate changes you can make in programs\, partnerships\, and everyday interactions to move toward solidarity\n\nSign up to attend. Available in-person at Metro Caring or on Zoom.

SUMMARY:Navigating Scarcity Together - Full Live Training
DESCRIPTION:Scarcity changes how we think and how we serve. In a time when we are facing unprecedented scarcity\, let’s understand it together. \nWhen we are worrying about food\, housing\, safety\, or stability\, our brains shift into survival mode. Focus narrows. Decisions become harder. Trust can erode. What may look like disengagement or resistance is often cognitive overload.\nBut scarcity doesn’t stop there. \nNonprofit professionals are also navigating limited time\, funding pressure\, policy constraints\, and overwhelming need. Under that strain\, urgency can replace reflection. Systems become rigid. Burnout grows. Even the most compassionate teams can find themselves reacting instead of responding. \nThis training brings both sides into the same frame. \nSpringing from the science to scarcity and behavioral economics—and strengthened by the lived experience of the facilitators who have navigated scarcity firsthand—this session helps participants see how strain shapes behavior on both sides of the helping relationship. \nParticipants will leave with: \n\nA clearer understanding of how scarcity affects real people—physically\, mentally\, and relationally\nLanguage to describe what they’re seeing in themselves and others\nA practical lens for responding in ways that build dignity\, agency\, and trust\n\nThis is a stand-alone training that offers immediate insight and practical grounding\, while also serving as a foundation for deeper work in solidarity and systems change. \nIn-Person Live Training\nDate: March 11\, 2026\nTime: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM\nLocation: Metro Caring – Granite Building\n1726 N Downing St\, Denver\, CO 80218\nFormat: In-person workshop \nONLINE SELF-PACED VERSION AVAILABLE ONGOING\nTickets: $150 In Person\nTickets: $150 – Online version \nSpecial Opportunity!!! If you are a Metro Caring volunteer and you have completed over 20 hours of volunteering\, you have access to our pay-what-you-can offer\, where you can pay what you can for each training based upon your capacity. \nPlease register to attend. \n

SUMMARY:Free First Look: Shifting towards Solidarity Webinar and Training Series
DESCRIPTION:True transformation happens when direct service becomes a space for shared power—when we serve\, organize\, and co-create with our community\, not for it. \nMetro Caring staff\, volunteers\, and partners are invited to join this special first look at Shifting Toward Solidarity\, a new learning series rooted in our shared work and lived experience. \nThis is a free first look at our upcoming series. \nPlease register to attend. \nWhat’s This Session About?\nAcross the nonprofit sector\, many of us are navigating a profound shift—moving away from traditional charity models and toward participant-centered\, community-led\, and trauma-informed practices grounded in solidarity. This shift doesn’t lead to a neat destination; instead\, it opens a journey of humility\, learning\, and co-creation. \nAt Metro Caring\, this transformation has been deeply personal and collective. Together with our community\, we’ve reimagined what it means to fight hunger—creating intentional pathways for participants to grow into leadership roles across our staff\, board\, and the broader anti-hunger movement. \nThis session offers a free sneak peek into our upcoming Hour of Power webinar series\, Shifting Toward Solidarity\, where we ask the hard but necessary questions: \n\nWhat does it really mean to be community-led?\nHow does shared power show up in our day-to-day work?\nHow do we design systems that reflect the wisdom already present in our community?\n\nWhy Attend In Person?\nWhile this event is offered in a hybrid format\, the in-person experience is designed for deeper dialogue and connection. Participants attending onsite will have the opportunity to engage in small-group discussion and relationship-building alongside Metro Caring staff and community leaders—creating space to reflect\, ask questions\, and learn together. \nIn-person seats are limited to 20\, so early registration is encouraged. \nYou’ll Get a Preview Of:\n\nNavigating Scarcity Together\nFrom Charity to Solidarity\nTrauma-Informed Spaces\nBuilding Better Systems: Operationalizing Equity in the Hidden Spaces of Service\nOutcomes Flow from Solidarity: Community-Led Evaluation\n\n  \n
